Job Description
The British Council teaching centres in Egypt are looking to recruit 2 full time Higher Teachers to work in its teaching centre in Alexandria.
To plan and deliver high quality EFL teaching to a range of learners and using a variety of methods/channels, and to support more senior colleagues in the development and implementation of projects/products/services in a defined local market.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Plan, deliver and assess the effectiveness of a teaching caseload, engaging with a range of different customer groups and deploy a variety of techniques and media (e.g. face-to-face, online, blended learning)
Provide proactive feedback to learners and regularly assess their progress and development to ensure they experience a supportive and effective educational service in accordance with the British Council’s statement of approach
Carry out a range of supporting administrative/logistical activities to enable the efficient and high quality delivery of teaching services including maintenance of accurate teaching records, documentation, course material and reporting Teaching product, programme and curricula development
As required, contribute expertise, share content and practical support in collaboration with the global product team to support the development, evaluation and improvement of high quality teaching courses and materials as part of a formal project for use across the British Council network
Take on projects, as required, to support the delivery of teaching centre objectives.
Undertake a range of targeted on-the-job and desk-based CPD activities (e.g. work shadowing, online learning, wider EFL reading and review of wider teaching practice/techniques) to deepen teaching expertise in a field of specific interest (e.g. young learners, corporates, adults, teacher training, online learning) to ensure teaching practice at a centre/country level is reflective of the British Council’s high standards of methodology/statement of approach
Build and maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the use of digital content/technology/social media in EFL teaching
Design and deliver CPD initiatives within a developing field of specific interest (e.g. young learners, corporates, adults, teacher training, online learning) Customer/market focus
Review and analyse student/customer feedback received to improve personal practice and to make suggestions to senior colleagues in the development of new or improved products, services or ways of working within the Teaching Centre to continually improve levels of customer satisfaction
Recognise and understand the impact of incidents arising (e.g. complaints, resourcing problems, logistical or technical difficulties) and proactively alert appropriate colleagues (e.g. customer services) to any issues of concern to minimise the negative impact on service delivery or customer experience
Provide ideas and local market customer insight to develop high quality local marketing and promotional materials to increase customer take-up of products and services
Identify opportunities to deliver teaching services more efficiently/ effectively and make recommendations to senior colleagues accordingly
Actively seek to maximise value for money when acquiring resources, goods or services for the teaching team
Plan and prioritise own work activities, responding to changing requirements to ensure effective and high quality delivery of teaching responsibilities over a daily/weekly time horizon
Task and coordinate others (e.g. internal colleagues or external contractors/suppliers) to complete time-limited activities, within established procedures and to agreed quality and time standards in order to ensure efficient delivery of services or project responsibilities
Follow agreed corporate risk management processes and procedures as outlined in the organisational child protection policy when delivering services to protect the interests of the British Council and its customers at all times
Share expertise, materials and provide practical support to less experienced colleagues within the teaching team to raise the quality of teaching delivery. This may involve taking a formal mentoring role providing coaching and mentoring support to less experienced teachers and acting as a classroom observer

Job Requirements
This opportunity is open to Egyptian, and UK nationals along with other nationals who have their own existing right to work in Egypt. Work permits can only be obtained via the British Council for UK, and Egyptian passport holders. There are age restrictions to candidates who are over or close to 60 years of age when applying.
Undergraduate degree only if required by local law
Cambridge Delta /Trinity Diploma in TESOL, or equivalent or evidence of intention to complete within defined timeframe of 12 months post appoint.
British Council approved observer status or willingness to complete training within 6 months of taking up post
An experienced teaching professional able to support less experienced colleagues in teaching practice and quality of teaching delivery. Equivalent to around 2 years of post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL teaching experience
Experience in teaching relevant age groups
Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (400+ hours)
Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
Desirable Requirements
Additional specialist qualifications such as PGCE/B.ED in Primary, YL Extension to CELTA, or IELTS examiner status
