The U.S. Mission in Kuwait is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of a Visa Assistant in the Consular Section
The incumbent of this position screens incoming documentation and information from a variety of sources (public counters, National Visa Center (NVC), U.S. Center of Immigration and Services (USCIS), mail, phone calls, etc.) to organize and track visa requests according to a relatively complicated set of laws and procedures so that the Consular Officer can make decisions and ensure that the legal requirements of the application have been met. Performs data entry, prints visas, files, answers the full range of public inquiries on Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) matters and drafts routine correspondence.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Receives Non-immigration Visa (NIV) applications, makes preliminary determination of visa classification and performs data entry.
Maintains files of applications for which Security Advisory Opinion (SAO) clearances have been received.
Prints approved visas, performs Quality Assurance process on printed visas.
Responds to public inquiries, drafts routine correspondence for signature by unit chief.
Drafts Security Advisory Opinions (SAO's).
Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements
Open to the public
Three years of administrative work experience and/or customer service experience.
Completion of at least two years of college or university-level studies in social sciences or related field is required in order to have sufficient skills to analyze, interpret and apply regulatory or legal information.
Language skills will be tested for short-listed candidates.
Level III (good working knowledge) Reading/Speaking/Writing English and Arabic. Language skills will be tested.
Incumbent must have advanced understanding, familiarity and knowledge of local customs and culture.
Completion of the consular correspondence course immigration law and visa operations PC 102 is a requirement for full performance level.
Must possess good communication and customer service skills.
Skill in the use of consular systems and computer programs such as MS Office.
Ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment paying close attention to details.
