Founded in 1954, Kuwait Airways, is the official national carrier of the State of Kuwait. Initially owned by the Kuwaiti government, it became the longest-serving, official state carrier operating from the Arabian Gulf Region in 1962. In 2016, Kuwait Airways announced a five-year transformation strategy to reclaim its position as the "preferred airline linking Kuwait to the world." With over 4,800 employees and a fleet of 23 aircraft, the airline aims to serve over three million passengers annually by 2017. The first of 10 Boeing 777-300ERs was delivered in December 2016, and the 10th and final aircraft are expected to be delivered in Q3 2017. Kuwait Airways plans to add 15 A320neo and 10 A350 aircraft by 2019, making it the youngest commercial airline fleet in the world.
